“Just Pride, Man. Just Pride.”

December 15th, 2010

After making Joe cringe last night while talking about watching his off-the-bone left bicep rolling up on his arm, Gerald McCoy offered some takes on the Bucs’ second half revival Sunday against the Redskins.

Speaking on the Buccaneers Radio Network on WDAE-AM 620, McCoy said manhood was a big factor in the Bucs transforming Skins running back Ryan Torain from the second coming of Terrell Davis to Cadillac Williams circa September.

“Just pride, man. Just pride. It’s just our defense saying, ‘Look, why does this one guy have 170, 180 yards in the first half on us?’ They said, ‘This has to stop now if we want to win this game.’ And that’s all it was,” McCoy said. “They went out there and they made those tackles. They made those fits and the things they needed to do. They did it.”

Of course, this is a recurring theme for the Bucs. Get abused on defense in the first half and come out at halftime and dominate.

Seems like it would be an easy fix, since obviously the ability is there. Perhaps they should this little pride chat before the game.

Joe sincerely hopes the Bucs don’t make the Lions ugly running game look like worldbeaters Sunday. Joe would feel very good about having the game in Drew Stanton’s hands.

I say the same thing all the time Joe…What ever the coach is saying at half time, break that out before the game…Also, tell Free it is the 4th quarter and we are down by 10 no matter what the score or time is!

  2. Troxell8t8 Says:

I believe the problem is Coach Morris needs a d-coordinator to help him. The guy just has too many responsibilites. I don’t care if he keeps calling the defensive plays, but how can he have time to really analyze what the offense is doing to his defense because as head coach he is still watching the game when Freeman and the boys are on the field.

The man knows his stuff, I’m not questioning his ability. A second pair of eyes I think would be very beneficial to him.

  3. bucfanjeff Says:

This game has a Charlie Batch feel to it, though Batch is Stanton and Wallace is Johnson. Let’s hope Bennett can get some pressure, as MC Hammer would say, “Let’s get it started..”

  4. Travis Says:

bucfanjeff: I think your forgetting one major thing…. The lions d is crap and the Steelers d is great?

Pittsburghs defense can carry a lousy offense, Detroits defense cant carry a jackstrap

  5. New Era Buc Says:

That Lions D held the pack to 3 points last week so let’s not over look this game. And Rodgers played a fair but too. The Lions D line is not no joke even without Kyle V

  6. McBuc Says:

Trox…I agree, another set of eyes would be great.

  7. d-money Says:

Its the job of the position coaches to analyze what the offense is doing in regard to their individual positions and relay that info to the DC in this case also the HC.

That is the same no matter who is the DC.

  8. Gary Says:

We def. should not overlook this game. I would love a win, but not letting Suh play like a beast would be icing on the cake.

Hardman, Zuttah, and Larsen need to play well on sunday, and biggers/ronde need to step up on Johnson for us to have a chance.

  9. bucfanjeff Says:

@Travis – I was strictly comparing their offense vs our defense – not team to team. My point was, it doesn’t matter that “it’s Stanton” at QB, in the same respect that it was “just Batch” at QB for the Steelers. We made batch look like an All-Pro because he had time to throw. We’re banged up on the defense pretty good, we still need to get pressure, because with Calvin Johnson running around the QB doesn’t need a whole lot of time – or have to be very good.

  10. Theodore Says:

“After making Joe cringe last night while talking about watching his off-the-bone left bicep rolling up on his arm…”

Hmmmmmm, I wonder what would make a muscle too big for the tendon to keep it attached to the bone.

Go ahead, call it a football injury. Just pointing out the obvious.

  11. oar Says:

    Theodore,
I had a friend that tore his biscep like that. He was just jumping over a railing on a loading dock and got his arm got in a weird way! It can happen without the “juice”!

  12. McBuc Says:

I will add to OAR’s correct reply…If he was on the juice, this injury would be less likely to happen. Juice does not make you bigger, it makes you recover faster enabling you to work longer and harder in the gym. The guy at your local gym that is jacked up on juice is spending more time and effort that the guys doing it the natural way. I am in no way suggesting it is ok to cheat in this way, but come on man get a clue.

  13. Theodore Says:

“Juice does not make you bigger…”. Really? Look, I don’t mind the criticism, just don’t blow smoke up my arse.

And it’s well known that steroids increase muscle mass disproportionate to the strength of tendons and ligaments.

  14. HIRE GREG OLSON! Says:

    Theodore,

Are you saying that all Bicep tears are the result of juice???

  15. BigMacAttack Says:

Josh Freeman is my hero. He is the true leader of this team. As long as we have him, the sky is the limit. Man Crush doesn’t begin to tell the story. I totally get why Raheem was so enamored by him at K State. He will continue to make everybody better. Stafford & Sanchez are a joke compared to Josh.

  16. BigMacAttack Says:

Sorry, I just felt the need to belt that out.

  17. Thomas 2.1 Says:

What Joe? GMC knows as much as you or I as to why the D Line played better against the run in the second half. He wasnt in the game. I dont recall he seeing him on the sidelines.

I have a theory as to what improved the D Line play. The insertion of Bennett at the under tackle/3 technique and the removal of roller-skates McCoy.

Clearly steroids arent the problem for this weakling, look at his combine numbers on the bench compared to the Suh’s of the world.

I expect much better D Line play this Sunday w/ Bennett and Crowder getting many more reps. I think Miller is terrible but I will admit that he has been showing up a little more two of the last three weeks. It is also interesting how Miller seemed freed up when McCoy went out and Bennett replaced him.

I am starting to see what Joe and others were preaching about early this year when they argued that Price was more effective than GMC.

    GMC = “Gets Manhandled Consistently”

The bucs need not worry this Sunday with another gift with Drew Stanton at QB. Add this hack to the list of hacks that the bucs have faced this year. One thing that will be on showcase though is what a dominant DT looks like, thankfully his 2 sacks and 4 or 5 pressures wont matter

  18. d-money Says:

    thomas2.1

“I dont recall he seeing him on the sidelines”

More proof that you either don’t watch the games or just don’t pay attention.

Mccoy was shown multiple times on the sidelines with his arm in a sling on the sidelines and was very active in the conversations that were going on with the D-line.

  19. McBuc Says:

Theodor…Do some research. If you take steroids and do not work out, no gain in size. If you take steriods and work out like you did before you took the juice, little to no gain in size. Steriods give you the ability to spend more time in the gym with a faster recovery time. You are right, you will get bigger. That is why the giant body builder guys are so moch larger than the natural guys. The drug itself does not grow the muscle, the ability to work harder due to the ability to heal faster is what gives an athlete an edge. So before you go accusing a gifted athlete of cheating, think first. Don’t just beleive the government propeganda, do some actual research on steroids and you will find this out.

  20. Thomas 2.1 Says:

Sorry d-money: I did watch the entire game, like always, which was proven by my participation in the live chat during the game which some of you sheep can attest to.

I guess I am not used to seeing Gets Manhandled Consistently (“GMC”) without an offensive lineman attached to him like velcro.

BTW – how can you tell how actively someone is participating in discussions about why the run d is playing better from a two second camera shots without audio.

  21. d-money Says:

    Thomas 2.1

Well thomas you can tell that they are active when their mouth is moving and they are talking to the other d-linemen. I suppose they could be talking about where they are going after the game but im going to assume that the discussion was about the game.

    and…

“I did watch the entire game, like always, which was proven by my participation in the live chat during the game which some of you sheep can attest to.”

this makes it even worse. At least if you didn’t watch there would be a reason for your ridiculous statements. Now it just shows you don’t really know WTF you’re talking about.

  22. Thomas 2.1 Says:

McBuc, you are clueless. Steroids do ac tually make the muscle itself bigger here is how:

The anabolic process (the rebuilding of new muscle cells) forms cells into muscle tissue. Through anabolism your muscles make repairs, grow bigger and stronger muscle fibers; thus, your muscles grow larger. Through the anabolic process, catabolic (muscle wasting) processes are stopped and repair and strengthening of the muscle fibers is taking place.
Testosterone, an anabolic steroid, is able to shift the nitrogen balance within the muscle cells in such a way that the body can use ingested proteins more effectively. By shifting the nitrogen balance, the steroid receptor complex sends a large amount of protein into the skeletal muscle cells. As a result of this injection of protein into the muscle cells, the muscles double in size after a series of workouts.

Stop with the Roger Clemens argument that steroids dont help athletes get better they just help they train harder and longer.

However, weak a– is not on steroids. He is probably not even on “weight-room.”

  23. bucfanjeff Says:

Thomas 2.1 – McCoy is a rookie and was not expected to come in here and take us to the super bowl. His progression is just fine.
It also seems like every time you post something, it’s negative. Can’t you be positive? Give us Thomas 3.0, please.

  24. Thomas 2.1 Says:

d money: did you watch the game and see: 2 short missed fgs, a drop pick six, an unintentional aonside kick, a botched xp to tie, a missed hold on a TD – and still a whopping 1 point win against a team with a losing record in total disarray the week of suspending their best defensive player.

  25. bucfanjeff Says:

…and BTW, suggesting McCoy is on steroids without any proof – is classless.

  26. Hawaiian Buc Says:

Thomas sees what he wants to see and reads what he wants to read. I don’t recall Joe ever saying Price was more effective than GMC. I do recall him saying they were different type of players, but you love to spin sh&* your own way. I can’t wait to see you backtrack when GMC becomes a Pro Bowler in a couple years. At least now Thomas has a chance to make his fantasy love affair with Suh a reality. Hope the Lions brought extra security.

  27. McBuc Says:

WOW…D-Money got Thomas to respond! When did mcoy go out? I was trying to remember, but it seems like it was in the first quarter. The defense did not really step it up until the seccond half. I do like Bennette though, McCoy will return and be a force next year. All of the experts seem to like him a lot, in fact Thomas is the only one I can think of that bashes him…I do not think Eric (not here due to Bucs Win) or Buc you bash McCoy. Maybe Thomas just does not like his super cool fro.

  28. d-money Says:

    Thomas 2.1,

Just to show that i’m not always totally against you I have to say I agree withy your last post.

Except the part about Mccoy being a weak ass.

  29. Joe Says:

    Hawaiian Buc:

I don’t recall Joe ever saying Price was more effective than GMC.

For a few practices in training camp Price was, and maybe a preseason game. Not since.

  30. McBuc Says:

T^homas, I actually do understand what you wrotye, and maybe I was too criptic in my response. how about./..Steriods alone will not make muscles bigger. Read you cut and paste job, it is saying the same basic thing. Also, I do not pay attention to baseball, and I find it nuts that the government is involved with baseball at all. Go take some juice and sit on your butt, I garuntee you will not grow more muscle.

  31. d-money Says:

    Thomas

apparently you didn’t see where i responded to those same statements you made in a post yesterday. Just for you i’ll copy and paste my reply from then….

“2 missed chipshots” …last time I checked football was a team sport and the kicker was part of the team. Our kicker made 3 kicks that were not chipshots.

“failure to call obvious hold on winslow td”…. the refs weren’t calling holding all day so there was no reason for either team to complain about this. They were being consistant in their non-calls for both teams.

” hall drops an easy pick six”… good point but unfortunately you forget to mention that Ronde dropped an INT that was also a sure touchdown so that kind of evens out. Not to mention that Hall probably should have been ejected for shoving a ref.

“wind blows ball off tee on kickoff to create an unintentional onside kick recovered by the bucs.”… this one is completely ridiculous becuase if the wind blows the ball off of the tee the kicker can stop the play and start over.

  32. McBuc Says:

Thomas, I will agree that if McCoy was juiced up, his bench should have been much better. look at that, common ground.

  33. Squadoosh1 Says:

Thomas: are you ever not a complete di#k ?

  34. oar Says:

One thing for sure about the “Juice”, it will turn your balls into jingle bells!

  35. McBuc Says:

Thomas, just to be a little more clear. Yes, you will get bigger and perform better on steriods. Due the reasons in your post you are able to work harder and longer. They will make you perform better, due to the ability to work harder and longer. It is about recovery more than anything else. It enables your body to recover in an unnatural way, which enables you to build more muscle. The steriod alone will not make you look like Lee Haney.

  36. d-money Says:

You can always count on oar to lighten things up.

  37. oar Says:

    d-money,
    I resemble that remark!

  38. MrGone Says:

Thomas 0.0, you’re correct, the Bucs suck, coach Ra sucks all draft picks and veterans suck and they’ll never be any good. Stop visiting JBF and take this time to find a new team to “root for”, maybe Carolina kitties, since they’re gonna hire your mancrush “the chin”. Take Eric with you. BYE

    T1.2
It amazes me that a guy whose primary attribute in life is haranguing people on a website, can spout off that a 300# NFL d tackle is a weakass. Fortunately he is a niceass as well, because he could probably pound your bigass head in the ground with little effort, using his bad arm. McCoy has tremendous lower body strength, which D tackles often have very large quads, hamstrings and butts, where the majority of their drive and power starts. It would be nice to see a sports science analysis done on GMC. I’m sure his impact punch would be in the 3000# range and leg drive kick in the 6000# range. I would venture to say that with no more than 2 lunges that GMC could go through a CMU block wall, and probably on the first hit, he’d take it down. For being an intelligent guy, why do you post so many stupid things? You really don’t have to stick your head up your ass to smell your finger. There is an easier way.

  41. d-money Says:

    My Grandmother broke her hip.

I think i’m going to have her tested for roids. It’s got to be all the extra muscle she’s packing.

  42. McBuc Says:

OAR, BigMac, and D-Money…You guys are cracking me up. That butt and finger thing…LOL

  43. oar Says:

    McBuc,
    We’re here all week……er…season……and off-season!
    Go Bucs!

  44. McBuc Says:

Right on! Go Bucs…hopefuly for the post season as well!

  45. Thomas 2.1 Says:

    Bigmac:

sounds like you spend a lot of time staring at his glutes and hamstrings, I personally am not that familiar with them.

I appreciate the reasonableness McBuc. In return I will admit that Rah seems to be a very nice young hard working and lucky as he– man.

FYI – I don’t think that this team “sucks.” I predicted 5 wins, I was wrong which attribute in part to the schedule and in part the Free development and addition of Williams.

Until they beat some legit teams, I am not convinced that are the “lasting contender” that some of you sheep think that they are. I do believe that the org, fanbase etc would be better with a Cowher-like HC.

  46. Hawaiian Buc Says:

“sounds like you spend a lot of time staring at his glutes and hamstrings, I personally am not that familiar with them.”

This coming from a man that often discusses how Raheem wears his pants and has an open love interest is Suh!

Are you aware that it takes time to build a “lasting contender”. No team with any coach has ever done it in one year, or even two, so why the unrealistic expectations for this team? That’s not even mentioning the fact that our team is full of rookies, second year players, and recently acquired practice squad players. Could it maybe have something to do with your hatred for Raheem? Nah, that’s just not possible. It’s because you are so highly qualified in running an NFL team. After all, you have probably built a dynasty in Madden.

Even if you believe we would be better with Cowher, it is not going to happen! So why do you keep crying over something that isn’t going to happen? Wouldn’t it make more sense to cheer for the team and coach that we have? Especially when they are doing pretty good! You are definitely a “glass half empty” type of guy.

  47. BigMacAttack Says:

I think Bill Cowher will be a geat replacement for Kubiak in Houston. I’m curious who will take John Fox’s place in Carolgina. They keep saying he’ll be replaced. I can’t think of any better coaches for them other than Cowher, but I can’t see the chin taking that crappy team when he can have a good one in Houston that only needs a few pieces. So I think Fox will keep his job, and Gruden should end up in Dallas or SF. That Singletary sure has turned out to be a bust. Raheem is the dream compared to a lot of coaches right now. I can stand Tom Coughlin, of all coaches, he sucks, and Jason Garrett is another yerkoff. A guy that is ready for a head-job(npi) is Sean McDermott in Phili.

  48. sensiblebuc Says:

    @ BMC

Here in Charlotte, Cowher seems to be signed, sealed and delivered. He already has a house in NC and his two daughters go to NC Universities.

  49. gitarlvr Says:

Yeah its funny how you mention your participation in the live chat thomas the zero. Even funnier how you disappeared halfway through as soon as you realized the Bucs had a chance to actually win the game. Why do we have to see post after post on here from a total d-bag who doesnt like any of the coaches or players on the team he allegedly roots for. Go root for a different team and haunt their message boards with your stupidity. I swear I will find which psychiatric ward you are housed in and alert the staff to your illicit internet use. Take your anti-psychotics and stay off the staff computers. You will never get out of the pysch ward and into a halfway house breaking the rules like this.

  50. gitarlvr Says:

Lets not even talk about just how long it took THE CHIN to win a super bowl in Pittsburgh. How many years did he piss away with guys like headcase Kordell Stewart and XFL castoff Tommy Maddox at QB? Sure lets bring the chin in!!! Then we will only have to wait fifteen freaking years for him to remold the Bucs into the Steelers and win a super bowl!!!! Cowher is SO OVERRATED!!! When you keep the same head coach for fifteen years you can bet he is going to have a decent chance of winning a super bowl at some point. The difference between Cowher and other NFL head coaches is that Cowher was LUCKY enough to coach for a Steelers franchise that refuses to fire their head coach when he doesnt win a Super Bowl within a handful of years. Any number of NFL head coaches could have had just as much success as Cowher given fifteen freaking years to implement their plan to win a super bowl!!!!

  51. Hawaiian Buc Says:

Watch out gitarlvr, Thomas is coming for you. There are two people you can’t talk bad about with Thomas: Cowher and Suh. He’s in love with both of them.

  52. gitarlvr Says:

LOL… In that case screw in Ndamukong Suh too. Not saying these guys know what they are talking about but the analyzers over at pro football focus rank McCoy ahead of Suh saying that while he doesn’t have as many splash plays he is more consistent than Suh in his pressure.
