Roddy White Takes Shot At Aqib Talib

November 4th, 2010

It seems Tampa Tribune reporter eye-RAH! Kaufman might not have taken Roddy White’s comments yesterday as a slap at Aqib Talib, but that’s surely the way Joe read them.

Some don’t think Joe doesn’t know what an insult is, but that’s another story.

White says he’d rather be covered by Talib than Ronde Barber, in part because Barber “watches film.” Here’s the quote Kaufman captured:

White sounds like a man eager to take on the challenge of facing Talib.

“On the other side of the ball, you have a guy (Barber) who’s made (five) Pro Bowls,” White told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “Talib hasn’t made any. I’d rather go against Talib than the guy who watches film and is real crafty and knows that if the inside receiver goes to the flat, then he’s going to jump the inside route.”

Funny how White thinks Talib doesn”t seem to know how to jump an inside route. Yeah, right. Keep thinking that, Roddy.

Talib surely has given up some big plays, but he’s known around the Bucs for his attention to detail.

Why White wanted to throw some darts at Talib is unclear. But it looks like the trash talk between these two started yesterday.

Meh. Barber is a future HoFer and Talib is just an up and coming guy with potential, but still makes alot of mistakes. I think the comment was more fact than trash talk.

  2. safety Says:

I think White’s talking this way to bait Talib into biting early on double moves.
Since White is an awesome receiver, Talib will need to be every bit of the technician and opportunist he can be to win the day.

  3. Danny Cap Says:

I think Roddy is still upset from when Talib jumped infront of him in the endzone last year and picked off Matt Ryan.

  4. JDouble Says:

Sounded like a compliment to Barber and not so much an insult to Talib.

  5. KFC Says:

@Danny Cap:I think Talib will do the same thing this year,i expect at least one pick from this secondary

  6. bucfanjeff Says:

Joe, can you make sure Talib reads this? The Bucs could use a little locker room wall paper.

  7. passthebuc Says:

sounds like he is trying to set up Talib to into thinking its an inside route and run a fly pattern,

Roddy also takes a shot at the rest of the team here:

What a d-bag! Hope we make him pay.

  9. BamBamBuc Says:

Setting Talib up for the double move? Get him to jump the inside, then head upfield for a long TD to get them to back off? Someone might want to tell Sean Jones to help Talib high/low cover White on those double moves….

  10. McBuc Says:

Mark…I am with you. What a cocky SOB.

  11. MTM Says:

Wow a diva receiver. Roddy White has just declared his free agency next year. A mouth with no edit to go with it.

I bet its safe to say the 1st time he goes across the middle Sunday. There will be a 25,000 fine coming. And it probably won’t be Talib.

  12. gitarlvr Says:

If Aqib Talib is known as a gambler than it follows that he probably watches his share of film. I mean thats how he anticipates whats coming on a play is by what he’s seen on film. Im glad the Bucs don’t have any spit talking diva receivers on the team. There really is nothing worse in football than these guys running their mouths.

@Jdouble, Talib is on pace for a 10 pic season. You do realize this is his second NFL season starting and he already has 14 pics in 1 season as a full time starter, rookie season he did not start and this season he was suspended for the first game. Talib has not accomplished anything close to barber. But his potential is through the roof.
