Pressley Has Left The Building

Well, Joe speculated last night that the Bucs had no use for fullback Chris Pressley, who came into the season as the No. 2 at the position.

Now he’s been cut this morning, so Tweeted Roy “Woody” Cummings, of The Tampa Tribune.

Roy: the Bucs have promoted OL Derek Hrdman from the practice squad and let go of FB Chris Pressley.

Pressley was a strongman fullback prospect from Wisconsin that Mark Dominik plucked from Cincinnati last year.

Joe supposes he just couldn’t block.

JoeBucsFan.com had a nice chat with Pressley in the offseason. Fine, intelligent young man. Joe wishes him well.

That makes rookie Erik Lorig the official No. 2 fullback, where he played quite a bit Sunday after Earnest Graham left the Saints game injured.

If Lorig can block, I like a 275 FB.

This isn’t even news. I knew after I saw Lorig in there after all of a week or two in his life at fullback that Pressley was a goner. And the problem definitely was that he couldn’t block. The last play I saw him block on was one where he got cut block by the defensive back HE was supposed to be blocking which ruined a run that should have gained some yards. That play stuck in my head as being really pathetic. Real fullbacks don’t get taken out by DB’s.

    Agreed, gitarlvr. Well said.

I think it’s a little early to say Cody Grimm is a quality starter. I like him, but Michael Clayton finished 2nd in ROY voting (behind Roethlisberger) and he won’t be remembered as a “quality starter”.

  5. BamBamBuc Says:

I think the point is that he’s a 7th round draft choice, he’s starting at free safety, and he’s playing pretty well (a few mistakes, but he’s a rookie and a 7th rounder). I don’t think it was meant to imply that he’ll remain a long-term “quality starter”. He may, but that will be determined with time. For now, he’s doing pretty well.

  6. Thomas Says:

I am very impressed with Cody Grimm. Who I am not impressed with is McCoy, price and benn. What does it say about your draft when your 4th and 7th rounders are the class of your draft? Don’t give me this crap re d-lineman adjust slowly b/c suh is dominating.

  7. TJ Says:

@ Thomas I dont wanna give up on mccoy yet but in collage Suh had I think like 10 sacks in the pass happy big 12 while mccoy only had 5 sacks and I watched mccoys bowl game Stanford and gearhart ran the ball down there throat like teams are running the ball down are throat add to it tha mccoy had the lowest bench reps at combine. I hope he turns out ok but he still has a long way to go

  8. gitarlvr Says:

Thomas- are you serious? Suh is the most hyped defensive draftee of all time. So you think of Price and McCoy don’t come out of the gate like him then they are already busts? They have shown flashes, mainly in the first two games. Your an idiot if you judge a d-lineman as a bust after three bad games in the beginning of their rookie season. They played well against lesser teams like Cleveland and Carolina. McCoy will have plenty of chances against mediocre to bad teams- St.louis, Detroit, Seattle, Arizona, San Fran, Carolina again. If he doesn’t have a handful of sacks by the end of the season then you can call him a bust.

  9. Patrick Says:

Next year we need to get the best fullback in the draft. If Cadillac doesn’t return, I say we get a good running back like Ingram or Murray to pair with Graham and Huggins.

  10. mike56wesley Says:

playing along side vonder bosch and cory williams has nothing to do with suh being ale to get those plays?be for real mccoy and price will be fine

  11. 2 Buc Bill Says:

patrick, i’d rather have trent richardson than ingram

  12. FIRE GREG OLSON! Says:

    Thomas,

Suh plays on a line with Corey Williams, Vanden Bosch and Cliff Avril who have a combined 20 years experience in the league.

McCoy is playing next to Greg White (4 years), Moore (2nd year player) and Miller (2nd year player).

Have some perspective before you start labeling players as busts. I’m sure you’re way worse at your job than McCoy is at his.

  13. JDouble Says:

Lorig was absolutely blowing guys up last week. I think we’ve found our true FB. Now if he can catch the ball in the flat and run short yardage, he’d be pretty amazing. I’m sure we’ll find out soon enough. If he use to play TE, you’d assume he has the ability.

I am so ready to have a 520lbs monster backfield of Blount and Lorig. Grab a road grader LG in next years draft and we could really have something.

  14. Thomas Says:

Cliff who? Corey who? Defeat your own argument huh

  15. McBuc Says:

Thomas…Sapp did not light it up his first two years, but by your way of thinking we should hve sent him packing. You may not want to hear that d lineman develope slower than other positions, but it is pretty well documented. The same with Benn, most rookie wide outs do not have great first years. There are exceptions of course, see Mike Clayton. The Lion’s should actually be better, since they always are in the top of the draft. Suh is looking good with 4.5 sacks and an INT, but the greates stat of all is how many wins your team has…I believe the Lions have 1.

  16. JimBuc Says:

Sapp did not even start until half way through his first year

  17. gitarlvr Says:

We probably should all temper our expectations of sacks from price and McCoy altogether. Other than Sapp and John Randle I can’t name a d-tackle in the 20 years I have been watching football that had consistant multiple sack seasons. Even Albert Haynesworth, who was considered to have the best season of any D-tackle(since Sapp)in 2008 with Titans, only had 8.5 sacks that season. And that was the most in his career. Realistically 6-10 sacks a year for a d-tackle is great performance. It’s more important to be a run stuffer from that position(and McCoy admittedly hasn’t looked good at that the last 3 games). But the fact is Sapp is not the measuring stick for d-tackles. He was far and away the best pass rusher ever in that position. Labeling McCoy a bust if he doesn’t approach Sapp like sack numbers would be like calling a QB a bust because he didn’t become the next Peyton Manning. Or a RB a bust for not being like Barry Sanders. You get the picture(or at least you should).

  18. McBuc Says:

    @Gitarlvr…You are correct sir!
