Defensive Effort Didn’t Please Raheem

September 27th, 2010

Gotta give it up for the Bucs head coach staying candid and real. Winning the first two games didn’t go to his head.

Tampa Tribune scribe eye-RAH! Kaufman hit Raheem Morris with a question today at his noon news conference that essentially asked Raheem to talk about the Bucs’ “subpar effort” on defense, the first time in may games.

Morris agreed with the subpar-effort comment and was critical of Aqib Talib and the speed with which his defense played. “Yesterday could have been a four-pick performance and a Pro Bowl type day for our left corner.” Morris said.

Most coaches would shoot down a reporter questioning his team’s effort. Not Raheem.

Morris explained the bye week would be an OTA-type format to emphasize speed and fundamentals.

This bye week will provide some good info on our coaching staff. If we can’t come up with something that works against Cinci, I will take it as an indictment on the coaching staff.

Come on Rah… show us what you got!

  2. eric Says:

    Good remark, no excusses.

  3. Kevin Says:

My true concern with the Bucs is their “heart”. Im perplexed as to how #99 Brett Keisel at 6’5 and a conservative 285 pounds can return an interception for a 79 yard touchdown in the Tampa heat in the 4th quarter. I just dont see that happening with the likes of Dunn, Alstott, Pittman, Hilliard, Keyshawn, McCardell, or hell even Gramatica on the field…Just a concern.

  4. McBuc Says:

Kevin, I think it has allot to do with the age of the team. I am sure Freeman ripped them one as well. You would think someone with speed would have at least given it a shot. No worries though, they are young and that was just one game. We can gage their heart by how they play the next few games after this beating.

  5. eric Says:

    Age of the team?

Pop Warner teams try and tackle after an interception. Not a hard concept.

  6. McBuc Says:

Whatever Eric, there is no excuse for that one play, but the team showed their age in the game. You are the worst fan…well, not as bad as tampa 2 and Javier, but pretty darn close. I can not wait for another win, so we do not have to read your crap until the next loss. I think you actually enjoy it more when they lose, due to your hatred of Coach Morris. It is sad really.

I will hand it to javier, at least he spouted off at the keyboard even when the team won, too bad we can not shut both you tools up at one time.

  7. eric Says:

I have been to both games McBuc, have you?

  8. McBuc Says:

Nope, just have tickets for one so far, but if I were as miserable as you I would not go to any games. Going to games is not the way to prove your fan-hood. I either watch it on TV or listen on the radio to the bitter end every week. I have been a fan since I was a kid, even when they sucked in the early days and the 80’s. Just because you feel the need to piss and moan about everything the coach and GM do does not make you a better fan, It makes you a wimpy little cry baby.

  9. eric Says:

No Mcbuc, that would describe the fans accepting this farce as legitimate and looking at all things Bucs through rose color glasses.

I also have been attending games since 1976. However, I sadly was not a kid at that time!

  10. McBuc Says:

What makes me question you as that you do not see any improvement, which is just not the case. Maybe the Browns and the Panthers are not great teams, but last year we would have lost both of those games. I am not saying that this group is going to take the Bucs to the Super Bowl this year, next year, or ever. I am saying that they need more than one year to pull it together. It seems that most people see the direction and understand it, but there is a small group including you that just cannot see it. What is the magic number of wins for you? I say if they do not win 7 games than we are not progressing at the proper rate. The sky is not falling because the Steelers beat us.

  11. eric Says:

    Mcbuc,

Actually I think my position is the majority. Witness the number of bucs fans in the stands.

Folks I used to hang out with for bucs games are going fishing or golfing instead, and consider Raheem and the owners a joke.

Ill go with seven as showing sufficient progress.

You are right, I see very little improvement and do not feel we are heading in the right direction at all.

  12. MTM Says:

The lack of pressure on the Batch was the key the Bucs demise. Even a sorry QB can do a decent job with protection.

Granted NO holding were called on the Steelers O-Line. WTH. Yeh there just that great. B.S. Thats not an excuse. Just the facts.

The defense will play better the next game. It will help too that we won’t be playing the darlings of the NFL.

  13. tampa2 Says:

    McBuc,
A beat down is a beat down. And the Bucs were beat down bad. Worse than the score indicated. Raheem always calls players that blew it out in the media. The one that needed to be called out today is the Defensive Coordinator/anointed coach. Yet he tried to put a positive spin on it. That was not a learning experience. That was simply a beat down of an inferior team, and an amateur coach. Raheem has no answers because he knows no answers. He is simply not a coach. He is the result of cheap a$$ owners that are again the cheapest in the NFL with payroll. And they got the cheapest “person” they could find to call a coach. That beat down proves that. And playing Grimm ahead of Sabby was more proof. Cincy will do the same thing. Maybe not as bad. But it will be close.

  14. BamBamBuc Says:

I wonder how many of the Bucs “fans” that post here are actually cheering for the opponent to win on Sunday’s so they can hopefully get their wish of new ownership/GM/coach. If that’s the case, that’s pretty sad and not what I’d call a fan. Not saying anyone in particular is doing that, just wondering if some are.

  15. Capt.Tim Says:

Tampa 2 – ist place in the division, 2-1! Screw you!

  16. McBuc Says:

Hey Tampa 2…Read the article today you tool. You always seem to miss those though huh? I think score looks worse than the game was, but you just have a thing against Morris, so it really does not matter.

  17. McBuc Says:

Alsa Tampa 2 (again you give that great defense a bad name). How many times do we need to define a pro coach? he is paid by and works for the Tampa Bay Bucs, and holds the title Head Coach. Thank god you are not incharge. Go cheer for Dallas, they spend a huge amount of money so I am sure you will find the record fine.

  18. tampa2 Says:

@Bambam- Judging by the lack of fans in the stadium I would say that quite a few fans are not happy with the owners/GM/anointed HC. Are you only a fan if you drink the kool-aid handed out by the Glazers propaganda crew? We love our team! But our team has been shanghied by the sons and their amateur staff!
@McBuc & Tugboat Timmie. My thing is not against Morris personally. It’s professionally. Or lack thereof! If I call my dog a pig, I certainly wouldn’t expect him to oink! It’s the same with calling Morris a coach! Okay Morris, you’re a Head Coach! Oh goody, I’m gonna have a run stuffing, violent defense! That is, until a real NFL team comes along. Mendenhall-143 yards, 4th string, 35 year old Batch-3 TD’s. You say I give the tampa2 a bad name! How about your idol? the tampa2.1! Ha! how bad does Morris massacre Kiffin’s defense? And Tugboat, 1st place in the division? wow! let me save that so that I can paste it for you later in the year! That was a good one! LMAO. By the way Tugboat, your Mom called and said to tell you to be sure and clean that nasty ring around the tub out that you leave whenever you play with your tugboat! Bengals are coming up! lets postpone this discussion until after beat-down #2.
