What Was Derrick Brooks’ Best Play?

August 11th, 2010

As Joe stated in a previous post, there really are too many fantastic plays made by Derrick Brooks to try to single out one, though Joe attempted.

Joey Johnston of the Tampa Tribune has a solid piece on TBO.com this morning documenting many of the highlights of Brooks’ career and the impact Brooks made both with the Bucs and on the Tampa Bay community as a whole.

Johnston has a list of what he believes to be the best plays in Brooks’ career. Now Joe wants to hear from his readers. Select from Johnston’s list of Brooks’ best plays and you choose your favorite.

I loved how Michael Vick sat on a bench and held his head in his hands after DB leveled him for possibly the 4th or 5th time in the game.

  2. Joe Says:

Was it Brooks who made Kordell Stewart cry?

“What was Derrick Brooks’ best play?” Just about every time he suited up for a game!

    @Larry
That was a beautiful site. He just sat their with his head down. OMG!

    Thank you DB!! For everything!!

How many interceptions did the man run back for a score in that 2002 season?

I have never seen anything like it before or since. Suddenly 55 was running free toward the endzone.

He was gonna get that ring come hell or high water! There are very few teams, if any, in the history of the league that the bucs defense would not have torn apart on that magiacal Super Bowl Sunday.

    God that was beautiful!

    Damn, hell be missed…

DB55 is a legend. Greatest Weakside LB to ever lace up the cleats. Whenever someone is looking for a cover 2 Linebacker, they are looking for Derrick Brooks.

How about that game against the falcons where brooks jumped over the Oline and Dline for a sack on Vick.

  8. Greg Says:

The interception return in the SB was awesome, but c’mon, you hit a guy so hard he spits up blood on the sideline??? THAT’S priceless!!

Dub 5 is THE reason for my Buc fandom growing up as a kid in SC. He was always around the ball. Always making splash plays. Always played the game with intelligence and controlled aggression.

Looking back on his career and the type of player he was and the type of team we had it makes me remember why I love this team so much: we were always underdogs. We always had a flaw to overcome. DB wasn’t big enough to play linebacker. Lynch wasn’t fast enough to play SS. Ronde wasn’t athletic enough to cover the top wideouts in the league. Our offense wasn’t explosive enough…but at the end of the day we always pulled together and overcame the odds.

    Thanks for the memories DB!

Well said sensible…This is one subject ALL Bucs fans can agree on.

I can’t remember the year or the opponent but the best play I ever saw had Brooks blasting through the line and getting a piece of the opposing QB just as he let go a a short screen pass. The ball was caught and the runner weaved his way out for about a 10-12 yard gain. Nothing special until you realize who made the tackle. DB picked himself up off the QB in the backfield and chased the play down for about 20 yards before making the tackle. I’d love to have a clip of that play.

    ETO,

i WAS GOING TO COMMENT ON THAT SAME PLAY, IT WAS AGAINST THE BUFFALO BILLS, HE HIT THE QB AND THEN MADE THE TACKLE DOWN FIELD. TOTALLY TOP PLAY I EVER SAW
