Warren Sapp Goes To Bat For Derrick Brooks

September 16th, 2009

Warren Sapp has a blunt message for NFL general managers who thinks Derrick Brooks is washed up: You don’t know football.

Speaking today on WSCR-AM 670 in Chicago, which has never been the same since the great Mike North left, Sapp appeared with Mike Mulligan and Brian Hanley and unloaded on anyone listening who believes Brooks can’t somehow help out a team (such as the Bears).

“If you’re telling me Derrick Brooks can’t play football, then you really don’t know what you’re talking about,’’ Sapp said.

Sapp explained that the Bears defense is a perfect fit for Brooks. That Lovie Smith and Rod Marinelli, the Bears head coach and defensive line coach, respectively, were the ones who built the Tampa-2 defense which is used by the Bears.

Sapp, by the way, has never been a fan of Monte Kiffin, who is largely credited with developing the Tampa-2 defense.
